Ms. Pooja Jhaver – Chairperson

An alumna of Loreto House, Calcutta and Carmel Convent, New Delhi, Ms. Jhaver graduated from St. Stephens College, Delhi University with an Honours degree in Economics. A keen scholar, she also completed a second BA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE) from the University of Oxford, England.

Passionate about schools and education from an early age and deeply reflective and observant of the impact of school culture on children, Ms. Jhaver went on to pursue graduate study at Teachers College, Columbia University. As part of her Master’s Programme in International and Comparative Education, she was introduced to varied international paradigms and developed a special interest in both, patterns of family and community education and the design of holistic learning environments. Upon her return to India, she spent time observing and conducting research for The School, Krishnamurti Foundation of India, Chennai, before finally giving shape to the founding framework of the Nirmal Bhartia School.

In 2011, she was recognized as an Educational Leader and was felicitated by the Institute of Career Studies (ICS), Lucknow.

An inspired and enthusiastic life-long learner, she enjoys challenging herself in new ways. A spirited debater, an avid bibliophile and an ardent arts enthusiast with a passion for exploring creativity in art, craft traditions and design, she also has an eager interest in Indian philosophy and systems of knowledge.

A visionary with a firm belief in the power of community and holistic education, Ms. Jhaver inspires and leads by example.

 

Ms. Charu Wahi – Principal
An alumna of Carmel Convent and Modern School, Vasant Vihar, Ms Wahi completed her graduation in Psychology Honours at Lady Shri Ram College and then went on to pursue a Master’s degree in Applied Psychology and specialised in Child Development at the South Campus University, Delhi.

Having begun her career as an Elementary Educator at The Shri Ram School, her innate creativity and nuanced understanding of child development led her to soon head the organisation as Junior School Principal. Closely involved with the cause of Inclusive Education and the design of Special Educational Needs programmes, she has conducted intensive teacher training workshops all over the country.

An inspiring leader and motivated learner, Ms Wahi continuously strives to keep abreast of the latest research in the field of education. She attended the Project Zero programme at Harvard University and has also completed courses in ‘Leading for Understanding and Coach Development’ as part of Harvard’s Wide World Programme.

A spontaneous poet with a witty sense of humour, she loves the movies, music and travelling to previously uncharted destinations. As Principal of the Nirmal Bhartia School, she leads from the front, sharing her passion and encouraging all around her to keep learning and striving for perfection …lifelong.

 

Ms. Richa Sakhuja – Head of Senior School

Ms. Sakhuja did her schooling from the Carmel Convent School, New Delhi and graduated in Economics Honours from the Lady Shri Ram College. She has a Bachelors in Education from the Central Institute of Education, Delhi University and a Masters in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics.

Having begun her career as an Elementary Educator at Vasant Valley School, she went on to teach Mathematics and Economics before taking over as the Head of Department for Commerce and Psychology. As the school co-ordinator for the Leadership Programme, she participated in a number of workshops conducted by Teachers College, Columbia University.  She also spent time at the Grace Church School in New York and attended several other workshops such as ‘Thinking Based Learning’ by Dr. Robert J Swartz, ‘Circles of Confidence’ by The Teacher Foundation and Math Education in Early Childhood which added to her varied experience.

As Head of Senior School in Nirmal Bhartia, she has been instrumental in nurturing the Senior School Programme; she introduced the Life Skill Advisories and the Career Counselling Programme – ‘Making Correct Choices’. Apart from this, she has also participated in workshops on Effective School Leadership and Management and Improvement of Classroom Practices for CCE which were conducted by CBSE. A motivated learner, always searching for excellence, she inspires the students to work to the best of their abilities and strive to attain great heights.

 

Ms. Vibha Bhasin – Head of Middle School

Ms. Bhasin completed her schooling from Lawrence School, Sanawar and graduated from Punjab University. She went on to pursue a Nursery and Primary Teacher’s Training Diploma from South Delhi Polytechnic for Women and later attained a Bachelor’s Degree of Education from the Annamalai University in English and Social Studies.

She began her career at Father Agnel School and also served as Academic Coordinator at The Shri Ram School, Aravali. Dedicated and passionate about teaching, Ms. Bhasin has attended various teacher training workshops such as the Reggio Emilia approach workshop, Dimensions of Learning by Guy J Blackburn and Thinking Based Learning by Dr. Robert J Swartz. She also completed an online course in ‘Strategies for Effective Classroom Practice’ from Harvard University.

As Middle School Head at Nirmal Bhartia, she has twenty eight years of rich and diverse experiences in the field, a quest for perfection and a determination to ensure that all those around her meet her exacting standards too.

 

Ms. Vandana Pande – Head of Junior School

Ms. Pande did her schooling from the Mission Convent School Moradabad and completed her graduation in Physics from Hindu College.

With a rich experience of twenty eight years of teaching Physics to senior students in St Mary’s Convent school Moradabad and Vasant Valley, New Delhi she has also been instrumental in nurturing the Robotics Programme in Vasant Valley. She then moved on to become the Academic Head at the Presidium school and mentored the Science department of all branches of Presidium Group and worked actively to develop the Mathematics and Science curriculum for primary and middle school. She has also been instrumental in initating ‘EUREKA’, a hands on learning programme of Science and ‘Robotics’ for primary and middle school children in Presidium school.

She has also been associated with Extramarks education as Manager Sciences and extensively worked for curriculum development of various national and international boards

Passionate about working with teachers and children, she also did a one year course in Guidance and counseling from ‘Institute of counselor training research and consultancy’, New Delhi.

Ms. Manjari Chaturvedi – Sufi Kathak Dancer

She trained in the Lucknow gharana of kathak under the guidance of Arjun Mishra and has studied abhinaya under Kalanidhi Narayan at Protima Bedi’s Nrityagram.

She is particularly drawn to Sufi mysticism. She is known for creating a new art form of Indian classical dance called Sufi Kathak.

 

 

Dr. Amrita Dass – Director – Institute for Career Studies

She is a leading Educationist and Career-Consultant of the country. She is the Founder-Director of ICS-International and has the distinction of pioneering the career counselling and guidance services in the country. She is a recipient of the Lions Club Award for outstanding Social Work and the Rotary Award for Vocational Excellence and has recently been felicitated as a “Woman Achiever” by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).

 

 

Dr. Kavita Sharma – President – The South Asian University

Dr. Kavita Sharma is the President of the South Asian University, New Delhi. Prior to this, she has been the Director of the India International Centre and Principal of Hindu College. She holds a doctorate in English from Delhi University and has been awarded several fellowships and awards. Dr. Sharma has also published a number of books and is part of many professional organizations such as  Indian Society for Commonwealth Studies, Indian Law Institute and The English Association to name a few.

 

U S Bhartia – Industrialist

Mr US Bhartia, the promoter and Chairman of the Bhartia Group, is a renowned industrialist and has over 30 years of experience in managing large- scale industrial companies. He has been associated with India Glycols Limited for over 12 years as the Managing Director. He has contributed immensely to developing and introducing quality chemicals, he was conferred the Udyog Ratna award in 2005.

 

Ms. Leena Aparajit – Executive Director – Shiv Nadar Schools

Ms. Leena Aparajit is an eminent educator and is currently the Executive Director of the Shiv Nadar Schools. She has the distinction of being the founding Head of the Senior wing of The Sri Ram School, Gurgaon, and in a short span of time has acquired a formidable reputation as an inspiring leader and mentor. A passionate educator, she has also served at The Aga Khan Education Service and has been working in this area, sharing the competency and vast experience that she has acquired over the years.

 

Amita Baig – Director – World Monument Fund

Ms. Amita Baig is a Heritage Management Consultant to the World Monuments Fund in India, the Namgyal Institute for Research on Ladakhi Art and Culture, UNESCO, the Taj Mahal Conservation, Collaborative and Founder Trustee of the Jaisalmer Heritage Trust. She joined the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage at its inception and was Director General of the Architectural Heritage Division from 1993 to 1999.

 

 

Abhinav Singh Bindra – Olympic Gold Medallist (Shooting)

Mr. Abhinav Singh Bindra, an Indian shooter from Zirakpur, Mohali, Punjab is the current World and Olympic champion in the 10 m Air Rifle event. He became the first Indian to win an individual gold medal at the Olympic Games.

He along with Gagan Narang shot in unison to set a Games record in 10m air rifle pair’s event for men to win the first gold for India in the 19th Commonwealth Games. Mr. Bindra has also been awarded the Arjuna Award, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna and the Padma Bhushan.

 

Mr. Raj Jain – CEO, Times of india group

Heading the Times of India group as CEO, Mr. Raj Jain was Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of Bharti Retail and also Managing Director & CEO of Bharti Walmart, and Asia Pacific Region Head, Marketing & Supply Chain at Whirlpool. Mr. Jain was Chairperson of the Board of American Chamber of Commerce & Industry and has served on the advisory board of HOPE foundation in India as well. Mr Jain has an Engineering Degree from Delhi University and an Executive MBA degree from the Kellogg School of Business.

 

Mr. Sushil Dutt Salwan – Eminent Advocate

An eminent advocate, Mr. Sushil Dutt Salwan has been practicing law at the Supreme Court of India and High Courts in different parts of the country. He specializes in advising and representing clients in a wide range of matters pertaining to Civil, Criminal, Corporate and Commercial Litigation, Consumer Protection, Aviation, Customs, Excise and Octroi Laws and Intellectual Property Rights. Mr. Salwan is an avid reader, sports person, music lover and also a Trustee of the Salwan Education Trust that runs 14 schools in the National Capital Region.

The Parent Teacher Association

The PTA works to ensure effective and constructive collaboration between the school and the parent community. While all parents of the school are members of the PTA, the Executive Committee of the PTA is elected from the General Body as per the rules prescribed by the DOE. Each parent representative serves a two-year term.
