Childrens Day
On the occasion of Children's Day, celebrating the boundless wonder and unique creativity of children, the Nirmal Bhartia School organised a fest "Young at Art". It was a day full of music, mudras, melody, masti, memories and more…
the aim being to introduce children to the myriad different forms of performance and visual arts, and inspire their own creative spirit to encourage an appreciation of the grace, discipline and beauty that the arts bring to our lives.
Sh.Shamshad Husain son of the well known painter Sh. M. F. Hussain lit the lamp and inaugurated the function, after which he conducted the Art Workshop called "Scribbles" for all the young artists from various schools and their teachers and parents.
He judged the drawings that the budding artists from various schools had made in the painting competition "Strokes".
The art workshop was a great beginning to our Children's Day Festival, The school looked like a work of art! The decorations, the colourful scrolls draped on the building walls, the wonderful painted walls of each room, were a riot of colour and creativity.
The function continued with a book reading workshop "Snippets" conducted by Samina Mishra great grand daughter of Dr. Zakir Hussain associated with "Bookaroo", a Charitable Trust, committed to bringing children and books together.
She had the children in raptures with her renditions of "The Poorie that Got Away" and "Chicken on the Run".
These stories were originally written by her great grandfather.
A further extension of the concept "I love to Read" was the book stall set up by Ms. Saroj.
Fun activities like join the dots, mazes, build up
with shapes, what comes next, smell and tell and pin
the rose on Chacha Nehru were planned for preschoolers.
Logical thinking and fine motor skills were involved
along with fun. Equal excitement was visible amongst
parents and children alike. Children were given tattoos
and a small token of appreciation for participation.
As they proudly carried their work, their beaming
faces made our day!
"Young at Art" went a STEP ahead -literally by inviting Dr. Sonal Mansingh - the leading exponent of Bharatnatyam and Odissi dance to be the chief judge for the inter-school competition "Steps".
All schools participated with great enthusiasm and our dance room resonated with folk tunes and harmonious footwork of the young dancers.
The very talented theatre group, Anant was invited to showcase their performance and share their skills. Dr. Ashish Ghosh, with his team of puppeteers and mime artists presented a play called "Chutti" in which four different stories were woven into a single one and portrayed in four different ways.
The performance began with a puppet show which was greatly enjoyed by the little children. It was followed by an animal story in the song form, borrowed from the Gondi folk tales of Chhattisgarh.
The workshop concluded with an interactive session.
The evening proceeded with 'Strings', the inter-school rock fest.
We ended this highly successful event with "The Himalayan Harmony" and "Groove Adda" bands playing melodious numbers for us. The "Himalayan Harmony" - a band of our own school music teacher performed their own composition and captivated the audience with their performance.
Five year old Ishaan, the youngest member of Himalayan Harmony performed the final countdown and the love theme which was a fitting finale to the whole event.
"GrooveAdda" had the very talented and young Aditi Singh Sharma (has sung for the film 'DEV D') and Gaurav Balani (has performed for the famous trio - Shanker, Eeshan and Loy).
Groove Adda started with 'Mamma Mia' by ABBA and ended with the famous bollywood number from 'Rock On'. Their music was enthralling. Both the young and the old were swaying to the beats of their music. The air rang with shouts of 'more' and 'encore'.
The musical evening finally came to a close with a promise to hold the fest again next year and to stretch it over a period of two days.
