Sacha Dil Achcha Kaam
"Sacha dil achacha kaam" - good hearts make good
work, was the theme of the conference conducted at
the Riverside School, Ahmedabad on 5th and 6th December,
2009. The conference was attended by a couple of facilitators
of Nirmal Bhartia school and the senior management.
In the wee hours of the 4th of December, they headed
for the airport. After landing at Ahmedabad they headed
straight for the Riverside School. At the school,
some fine examples of documentation of children's
work was displayed. Interacting with the teachers
and students and experiencing their mode of teaching
was an interesting experience. The rest of the day
was spent in going around the city and visiting the
Sabarmati Ashram.
On the second day of the conference, 300 odd people
from different schools attended - all there with the
same desire - to bring in a change in the pedagogical
system and share ideas to make the education more
child centric and effective. The conference included
orientation sessions, onsite observations of educational
practises, exclusive meetings with scholars and group
reflection at the end of each day. Learning and reflecting
with leading experts like Howard Gardener, Lillian
Katz, Julie Vernes, Ashish Rajpal and others was an
enriching experience.
The two day workshop provoked the educators to explore
ideas and experiences of top speakers in the field
of education through interactive presentations, conversation
circles, networking activities and poster sessions.
Riverside school offers a curriculum where learning
is embedded in the real world context. Multiple intelligence
theory, collaborative approach to learning, community
building are the key factors. A visit to their school
was like looking into the mirror as it reflected the
same idealogies that Nirmal Bhartis school believes
in.
The workshop put our facilitators on the road to
maximize our learning and teaching processes, to positively
impact good work, good heart and good practice.
