Clubs
The Design club as the name suggests, gives an opportunity to children to design and create, think and innovate. When asked to brainstorm creative ways of putting a rope to use, children came up with varied ideas. The end results were out of the box objects such as necklace, rakhi, a shoe string, a ladder and ‘pom-poms’ to name a few.
It was an enjoyable and enriching experience as the children sat in groups and put the rope to novel and varied use.
The Cooking club is an initiative to make simple, interesting and healthy dishes that children can cook without fire. The response to membership was overwhelming and we had many enthusiastic chefs in the making.
The children made fruit pizzas, fruit cream and vegetable sandwiches. They enjoyed the food that they made and in the process learnt good eating habits and table manners.
Replete with high spirits, a sense of purpose, responsibility and pride - The Heritage club - named 'Dharohar' by the proud members, is a haven of activity and initiative.
The students ranging from ages 6-13, spend club time preparing posters, badges and inspiring slogans. They exchange information and ideas on creating awareness of Heritage sites and discuss the importance of preserving these for posterity.
The ideals of the Club were presented at its inaugural assembly during the India week, where members undertook a pledge to upkeep the values of their club with utmost zeal and dedication.
Some interesting events lined up at 'Dharohar' in the coming months are :
Heritage walks
Learning popular folk art
Participation in exhibitions to promote Delhi's heritage and heritage products
Clean-up drives
Identification of location of host memorials, temples and burial grounds in and around Delhi
....so be sure to watch this space.
