Progress Review
The objective of Progress Review at NBS is to enhance the
learning experiences of our children while inspiring and guiding
them to do their best.
This means that for us, the primary purpose of the assessment
and reporting process is to provide detailed, timely and actionable
feedback about the gaps in each child's learning and to suggest
the best possible ways in which those gaps may be filled.
A safe, non threatening environment
Our fundamental concern is to help children perform
to the best of their potential and to build on that potential.
Summary judgements and comparisons between children are of
much less importance to us.
To help our children learn in a safe, non threatening environment
during their early years of exploration and discovery, we
do not conduct any examinations till Class V. However, a variety
of authentic, real-world modes such as debates, observations,
worksheets, projects, oral questions and other methods are
used to provide continuous, comprehensive and constructive
feedback about each child's all-round growth and development.
Gradual introduction to exams
Formal examinations are introduced at the middle
and senior levels when life-skills such as time-management,
planning and prior preparation for a task become important.
Parent-teacher conferences
Parent-teacher conferences are organised twice a year
at the end of the reporting terms in October and March. During
these conferences, a detailed Progress Review Card and a showcase
folder, My Best Work Portfolio, containing samples of the
student's very best work are used as the bases for discussion
and review. Parent reports and the child's self-evaluation
of performance are also regarded as valuable inputs in the
process.
