Community Initiatives
 |
At the heart of everything we do, lending warmth and
enrichment to every facet of life at NBS, lies our core
commitment to the concept of community. Originating
from this, over the past few years, our team has evolved
four distinct initiatives, each with a unique mission
to help us build a culture of reaching out, sharing
and collaboration.
|
Nirmal Pragati - our centre for educators
The Nirmal Pragati programme sets the pattern for lifelong
learning and professional development opportunities for our
educators through forums, seminars, lectures and workshops.
Every year, the Pragati team organises a conference for educators
from neighbourhood schools and conducts a workshop for sharing
our pedagogy with them. This helps us connect with the larger
community of professionals in education.
We believe that teachers 'teach who they are'. So, in order
to inspire them to learn, grow and explore horizons beyond
the traditional disciplines, the centre also organises visits
to music recitals, theatre performances, art museums and places
of historical interest. In addition, it provides a platform
for educators to share their passions and hidden talents with
their collegues as part of an in-school sharing programme.
Nirmal Chhaya - our centre for families
Nirmal Chhaya helps build a circle of trust between parents
and families by encouraging them to actively participate in
activities of the school. The innovative and fun community
events organised by the team such as the Communicty Cookout,
Adventure Day and Corn Mela have received much appreciation
from parents and been instrumental in helping us build close,
meaningful relationships with them. The Chhaya team also supports
and assists parents through learning events, workshops and
seminars on topics such as child development, parenting and
conflict management.
Nirmal Vasudha - our green initiative
The activities of Nirmal Vasudha help our children
develp an early understanding of the wisdom that without a
deep connect with the environment, there can be no community.
In accordance with its objectives, the centre creates awareness,
fosters respect and encourages students to take active responsiblity
for their environment. Water harvesting, seperating waste,
reducing paper wastage, recycling by making art from waste,
and conserving electricity as part of Earth Hour are some
of the initiatives that the Vasudha team has introduced.
Nirmal Sahyog - our outreach and service initiative
In keeping with the spirit of 'sah-yog' or working
together, Nirmal Sahyog encourages our students to reach out
and partner with people and organisations in the fields of
animal welfare, education for the under-served, child rights
and care for the aged. Such interactions help children imbibe
the spirit of service or 'seva' and inspire them to give back
to the community from which they receive so much. As they
participate in collection drives, fund raisers or card sales
organised with the help of the Sahyog team, they realise that
the experience of participating in meaningful, productive
work is both satisfying and empowering.
