School Houses
After spending the last year contemplating about and discussing options for House Names, we finally unanimously agreed on Trees. The names finally shortlisted were done so on the basis of their significance and contribution to our lives. These were :
The Neem House, The Banyan House, The Peepal House and the Ashoka House.
The Neem Tree is popularly known as the miracle tree. It is a medicinal tree and is useful tree in rehabilitating waste land areas. It is used to combat global warming as well.
The Banyan Tree is also called ‘the wish fulfilling tree’. Banyan is the National Tree of India and is considered to be the tree of knowledge and life. Its leaves are used as eco-friendly plates.
The Peepal Tree is considered highly sacred in the Hindu religion. It is one of the longest living trees. It is said that Lord Buddha attained enlightment meditating under the Peepal tree.
The Ashoka is one of the most legendary and sacred trees of India and is considered to be a symbol of love. It is believed that Lord Buddha was born under the Ashoka tree and so it is planted in Buddhist monasteries.
On 22nd July,'09 Van Mahotsav day was celebrated in school wherein children were randomly allotted a House Name. Suring the course of the celebration, keeping in mind the significance of the day, they planted the saplings of the Neem, Ashoka, Banyan and Peepal tree.
