Ligh‘TEN’ UP! – NiBS Summit 2016

“Life as a teacher begins the day you realize you are always a learner.”
To maintain a high standard of excellence, the NiBS educators continually and actively engage in their own learning by expanding their knowledge and skills while sharing promising practices with others. In view of this, Nirmal Pragati organized a three day summit- Ligh’TEN’ Up- for the NiBS faculty. As at NiBS learning and fun always go hand in hand, the summit was no exception and thus each day had a unique theme which was reflected in the attire, music and the menu for the day as well!!
‘Punjabi Tadka’ was the theme for Day 1 and charged up after an exciting team building activity, the teachers got busy with sessions on Differentiated Instruction, Collaborative Strategies and Code of Conduct, all designed to discuss different pedagogical approaches, students’ needs and to generate a set of creative ideas that could be used as effective tools in the class.
Keeping in mind the festive spirit of ‘Pongal’, Day 2 of the summit saw the women dressed in south silks and men dressed in ‘mundus’. Sessions on Project Based Learning, Authentic Assessment and Teacher Enrichment Initiatives provided excellent opportunities not only to learn with but also to learn from one another. Interspersed with Good Reading Activities, interesting videos and TED Talks, presentations and energizers, the sessions filled our educators with a new confidence and vigour.
The third day of the summit kick started with a treasure hunt that energized all the staff members. The first session was on ‘Lesson Planning’ where the advantages of planning a lesson and the vital elements of a Lesson Plan were discussed. As we always emphasize on ‘Learning by Doing’, the teachers prepared detailed lesson plans and presented them to the team for constructive feedback. The final session was on Student Enrichment Programmes like Circle Time, Care Time, Learning Together, Mentorship Programme and internships for senior students.
The memorable summit came to an end with an array of activities which rejuvenated the educators, thereby making the atmosphere warm and lively even in the chilled weather.
