Children of class II visited the Metro Rail Museum at Patel Chowk on 9th September. They got to witness South Asia’s first modern Metro Museum, the only such installation worldwide in an operational Metro station while exploring the theme “On the Move”.
The students understood the genesis, history and journey of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), India’s first modern public transportation system.
On reaching the museum, they lined up eagerly and went past the entry point by inserting their tokens. Mr.Khanna, the museum in- charge showed them, a collection of display panels, historical photographs and exhibits, the genesis of the Delhi Metro which took 32 years to reach the operational stage from the drawing boards, major milestones, issues regarding the selection of the technology such as rolling stock (trains), rail gauge, etc.
There was a working model of the operations control centre, Tunnel boring machine which was a big hit with the kids. They also went to the platform to watch a real metro arrive and move on.
The trip gave the students a real life experience of the functioning of the Metro Rail and it also sensitized them to the effort and the hard work that goes into providing such services to the public.
