Not everyone gets a chance to go to space, but five NIBS students from Grade VI to VIII got the opportunity to see Earth from an astronaut’s perspective with the Sally Ride EarthKAM program.
Sally Ride EarthKAM (Earth Knowledge Acquired by Middle school students) is a NASA educational outreach program that enables students, teachers, and the public to learn about Earth from the unique perspective of space. This event is held in 16 different countries and in India it is organised in by SPACE.
The workshop was held on Thursday, 6th April, 2017 at Indian Heights School. The students learnt about ISS (International Space Station) and how to select locations which are of geographical and environmental interest, based on weather and through orbit checking. They learnt to send software interface submit request which were sent to ISS. ISS captures images of the locations after receiving the request and then makes high quality images available for download.
The students were shown a video and power point presentations to give a brief introduction about what the mission is all about. They were given usernames and passwords to login to the website.
