Visit to the Art Gallery The students of class VIII visited the ‘Modern National gallery of Art’ on 18th July, 2017. The visit was to instill in the students the different kinds of art and the history of contemporary art. Mr Argha Ganguly a guide at the museum had a short discussion regarding the meaning of art and how it is a major part of our life. He spoke about how before pictures or even cameras so to speak existed this was one way of expressing or capturing a moment in time. Post this, the students were taken around the art gallery and while they observed the different artists, and they art forms they were given a brief at the end of each gallery. They learnt about artists such as Rabindranath Tagore, Raja Ravi Verma, Amrita Shergill and many more. They also learnt of Bengal school and how the company period influenced our history in art. Raja Ravi Verma was inspired by this period and was the first artist to use oil colours. In the end the students learnt how art in its own way is a very strong medium of expressing oneself.
